Read the latest article on Mercury / Amalgam News. With World Questioning Mercury Fillings, FDA Backs Down

Dentistry has greatly advanced over the past 30 years and dental treatments have changed to produce healthier results in patients. Techniques have been perfected and technological advances has been developed to give patients happier, healthier, more natural-looking smiles.
One of the greater advances in dentistry has been to move away from using Mercury and Metal as tooth fillings and replace them with safer composites to human health.
Dental amalgams have been used by dentists for more than a century. It has a long history of research and has been tested as a restorative material for teeth fillings and is technically durable and resistant to wear. For those reasons, it remains a highly used treatment option for dentists and their patients.
However, many concerns have been raised because of the Mercury content in amalgams. Dental amalgam is an alloy made by combining elemental Mercury, Silver, Tin, Copper, and a few other metallic elements. The tooth is drilled through the core and greatly filled with the amalgam, which functions as a tooth filling. The problem is elemental Mercury is highly toxic to human health, and although the Mercury is mixed to create the alloy, heat, friction, and pressure release the Mercury inside the mouth and into the body over time.
When Mercury comes in contact with our body, it searches to bind with neurons within our nervous system. As it attaches to specific organic molecules, it stops these molecules from linking together with other molecules resulting a degeneration of a neuron. This is related, if not directly, to the same degeneration that occurs in Alzheimer's patients.
We can conclude that dental amalgams release Mercury into the body through heat, friction, and pressure and that this is harmful. Thankfully new innovations have been established and developed in modern medicine and this is good news to patients currently with dental amalgams and metal-based fillings.
The Salem Dental Studio is equipped with the technology to help those patients that want their old Mercury and metal-based fillings removed. We understand your health is greatly important and we ensure that different aspects of the treatment recommended are explained to you in order for you to make an informed choice about your dental needs.
